Following the journey made between 2017 and 2023 with This Anonymity Is Subversive, Montini redrafted the concept of anonymity and completed a monumental installation composed of 28 tapestries, one for each country in which the collective performance was carried out.

Revisiting the tradition and techniques of embroidery, relegated to the margins of artistic production and considered similar to craftsmanship (or a hobby), until a few decades ago associated to the female sphere of artistic practices by patriarchal and hetero-normed culture, Montini goes beyond the technicality and decorative functionality or practical use that this medium entailed, to create a participatory choral work without borders and without restrictions.

Starting from the photographic documentation of the individual “legs” of the project (which can be found in the catalogue), the artist draws the figures of some participants working on the drape, and transforms their images into embroidered subjects, completely featureless; thus the work becomes a monument to all participants.
Montini explores the subject of identity, through the production of a collective body that overcomes existing cultural, ethnic and social differences. Therefore, he tries to achieve a unified and universal representation of the individuals involved, with the exaltation of anonymity and the elusion of barriers.

The embroidered image of the white cotton drape used during the performance recurs in the individual tapestries and creates a visual horizon that moves between the individual elements, configuring itself as an element of union and sharing.

The use of fabrics of various nature and origin, appropriately assembled in the work, at first glance seems to imply a cultural encounter between different traditions and conditions, but a post-colonialist interpretation challenges the identity references linked to the same fabrics.
